Just to clarify one thing: I didn't have any upfront costs with Create Space becasue I didn't use their editing or desgin services. I hired an outside editor to go over the manuscript and I did all the formatting and cover desgin myself. Since I'm very comfortable with Photoshop and other CS software I didn't need to pay for any of this. I also already owned several ISBN numbers, so I didn't need to pay Create Space for these. I got my own bar code, which was incorporated into the back cover design etc. If you need any of those services from Create Space, or any other POD companies, there are upfront costs.
