Suzi - you say the nicest things. ;-)

Let me say one last thing that sums up the problem for all of us - no
matter whether it's a traditional market, emerging one or supplying
information to either.. The market for information is breaking down into
infinite numbers of channels and options.

So by options - we have perennials, annuals, ponds, rock gardens etc etc
etc and there are folks out there who are committed to each one of these
areas and to consuming information specific to that area.

And by channels - we have a huge assortment of publishing methods - books,
magazines, website, blogs, podcasts, social media sites (over 1500 of them)
video etc.

And then we can toss in a few variables - how many magazines are there, how
many gardening authors write blogs to pick from or produce podcasts to
listen to? Can we find a vegetable gardening source on Facebook or G+ (too
many options there as well so it will break down into geography -
"vegetable gardening in the deep south on Facebook" for example.

The market for information is no longer limited to a few magazines/books
delivering information to a captive audience. That audience moves towards
its preferred content / channel and producer. Instead of one market, we
have hundreds if not thousands of markets.

We saw this in this discussion with images. Magazine editors want
high-definition images at the last minute. Some want to download when they
want it. I prefer smaller definition images to keep my websites loading
quickly and I prefer them in large numbers so I can easily upload them en
masse to make galleries etc.

We each want what we want, in the style we want, when we want it. (mostly
"now") :-) Our audiences want it and so do we.

So those producing content for writers to use have the same problems as
writers have with their audiences - the Net has created a culture of
individual options and getting what you want, when you want it in your
preferred method. The problem Suzi and others have is to identify their
preferred targets and deliver the information in ways those targets will
use. At a price they can afford to do and still make money doing it.
.

May you live in interesting times....

Doug
