I' ve seen signs all over the island that promote individual farmers markets and it looks like each one occurs one day a week.  I presume they are only selling their own produce as it would be prohibitively expensive for them to fly goods in.  There are also several  farms where you can dine and buy produce.  One was started as a tourist destination but has become extremely popular among locals.  Hawaii public radio has an ongoing program about local farmers and farm to market programs on the islands that I've been listening to but can't find the link at the moment. As an aside...there's also a program on Oahu to reintroduce the art of making poi and growing Taro.  These were traditional staples of the islanders but the skills to make poi are being lost and Taro production has fallen to record lows.  You can listen to this NPR story here

Interesting, is food sold at the local farmer's market locally grown, brought in 
from elsewhere or a combination? Is local promoted in any way? I know we sell 
some seeds to market farmers but I'm not sure they are on Oahu.
