Doug,

I'm in the Dramm and brass parts camp. However, at some point they all leak and that's when I use rubber -- not plastic -- washer replacements. At the start of the season, everything gets a new rubber washer(I like to think of it as an early Christmas present for my watering devices) and off we go.
