Demand Media

I did tons of stuff for them a couple of years ago, and it was simple,
quick, and I made decent money. But they upped their requirements for
extensive references AND started using a bunch of editors who know nothing
about gardening and make the worst possible edits. Result was articles under
my name that were rubbish, so after protesting and getting nowhere I just
dumped it.

Hi, Everyone!

A few months back there was a GWA job listing from Demand Media. Does anyone
on the list have any experience with this organization?

Thanks for any insights!

Hi Lorraine,

I followed through with that listing a few months ago but stopped thinking
about it when I didn't hear anything. Last week I got an approval and
welcome letter. I had tried to find out how much they paid before applying,
so as not to waste anyone's time, but they wouldn't give out that info. I
checked as soon as I was approved and the gardening articles pay a maximum
of $25. That's a no-go for me.

I'll keep checking to see if they offer anything different over the next few
months; maybe $25 isn't always the max. I, too, would be happy to hear about
people's experiences working with them.

Hi, Ellen!

Thanks for the reply. Ditto your reply for me so I want to see what other
GWA members can tell us. When I googled them and bore down into who is in
their stable, Nick Staddon comes up so I'm hoping he and maybe some others
will share w/us which might negate the $25 fee, etc. I'm willing to
participate in the Wed phone call to at least understand the process to gain
more.

Anyone else get the approval and welcome email?

Just a heads up - Demand media is a content producer for sites such as eHow.
450 word articles. Simple. Keyword dominated to rank reasonably well. I
don't know who gives the keywords (them or your research) but if you're
looking for a high-end market where you get paid XX per article, this isn't
it.

If you're looking to make money - then ask yourself how many of those kinds
of articles can you pump out in an hour @ $25 per article. And how many
hours a day you want to spend doing it. There's your number.

Just another way of looking at it.

I used to write for Demand Media all the time. I made real good money and
they pay twice a week via PayPal. Their requirements for specific references
are pretty strict. I am still a writer there but have not done much since
losing my husband Jerry.

Re: Nicholas Staddon ? I?d be surprised if he?s paid?more likely, it?s
