John is right about sucking insects being much more vulnerable to MERIT. If
you have Japanese beetles in abundance you might be able to use the milky
spore disease against them. It takes a couple of years, but does a lot.
Betula papyrifera is a poor choice south of about 45 degrees north latitude.
It is a cold climate plant, and most of Massachusetts is warm enough to favor
the pests over the paper birch.
