Need to locate some information

Hi:

I was at church tonight for bible study.  While there, one of the two coordinators of a newly developed day care center asked me to consider coming in this summer (whenever the state gives our church the license to start operating) to introduce some short lessons to 3-5 year olds on gardening.  These are basically going to be inner-city kids who still believe that milk comes from QD (a major chain of small stores selling milk and other groceries in this area) and that vegetables and fruit come from the grocery store.  I'm sure you get my drift now!

I KNOW there is a garden organization that regularly makes grants to youth groups for garden tools, supplies, and seeds.  Can someone point me to the right group and perhaps, even a name to contact?  If I can, I'd love to come up with a light garden so the teachers can do hort projects year round.

We're really hoping to have the center running by July.  Our area badly needs daycare centers serving this particular population where the Family Independence Agency pays the cost of daycare for many of the children due to family income levels.

I've already talked to the director about having a "square foot" style garden built right at the daycare center door with sometime of protective cover over it for when no one is around to keep neighborhood kids out (we hope).

If anyone here has any suggestions on either an organization or perhaps even some commercial companies that may be willing to donate supplies, please send me the information off list and I will gladly follow up.

Thank you.  It's good that I currently have two books about gardening with children on my shelves to review this summer!  I do think I'll be needing the project ideas so I can go in, teach a lesson as a volunteer, and leave sufficient directions for the paid teachers to use for follow up lessons.

Thank you in advance for your help.
