new mosquito question

Hi Jeff and all,
I'd like to hear about personal experiences with those mosquito magnet contraptions. I saw them in use all over Florida two years ago and figured there must be something to them. The West Nile threat made me think they would make a great column topic. So last spring I bought one and set it up in my parents' backyard. They have a swimming pool where I was regurlarly the main course on the mosquito menu. The instructions said it might take a while to notice any decrease in mosquito population. After about a month I was still being viciously attacted by the vile creatues. Although the literature said the unit would attract only mosquitoes, there were more lightening bugs and lady bugs than anything else in the collection chamber. I think the highest number of mosquitoes we found was about 7 in a 48- hour period--not nearly enough to justify the $300 pricetag. Standing beside the unit to empty it, I could generally kill about a dozen of them attempting to bite me. I boxed it up and returned it. I'd still like to write the column, but need more research. I really wanted this thing to work...scratch, scratch scratch.
