Title: Re: [GWL] 8 New Roses for June stories
I keep a close watch on the megamarts in spring -- KMart and WalMart,
Lowe's and Home Depot -- to give me ideas on what to write about. This year I've
noticed that there is absolutely nothing but the most bland and conventional.
And not a whole lot of that, certainly less stock than last year.
KMart always had a line of Martha Stewart signature plants where I could
usually find something interesting. This year nothing but petunias, impatiens,
and geraniums (and the geraniums all seed grown snoozers). WalMart last year had
four different varieties of ornamental sweet potatoes; this year they don't even
have Blackie. Pretty much the same story with the building centers.
Is this just our area? Has anyone else noticed it? Does anyone know what's
going on?
