calling cards

Could someone please tell me the purpose of these "vcf cards" on some posts
arriving in the GWL mail? They arrive as attachments (verboten on this
list), then intrude onto your hard disk and when you clean up your hard
disk, you have to remove them one by one. They don't take up much kb, but
it's a pain.
