I do he same thing -- plant several flats of impatiens for bright color in
areas where I don't have the time to do something creative -- but I seldom
pay more than a buck or two per flat. I buy them in June after they have
been mistreated by the big box "associates" for a couple of weeks. Sad
looking fellows and usually ignored by the pseudo-gardeners. I put them in
the shade for a week or so and pour on the blue water. Stunted impatiens
snap back with gusto. And because they have been stressed, they bloom early
and heavy.
What can I say. I'm a Scot.
