It's a problem we face every day when we decide to exhale. Carbon dioxide is
a greenhouse gas and is toxic to humans. But there are two things we think
about with every breathe:
1. "Just a little bit" really doesn't hurt. As any toxicologist will
tell you, the dose makes the poison, and
2. In a cost/benefit analysis, just a little carbon dioxide pollution is
acceptable relative to the discomfort of not breathing.
You do think about that every time you breath, don't you?
In an issue like this, there tends to develop the idea that if a substance
is "dangerous" in quantity, we must eliminate every molecule of it. It just
ain't so.
I don't use water absorbing crystals for my large container garden, but not
because I consider them any kind of danger. I spend an hour or more every
day watering with a hose. But for people with a real life, I have no problem
recommending the crystals for them.
