Keep in mind that the lead time your publisher gives you is not just  
for book production, but also to allow the sales team to do their  
job.  A publisher's catalog (upcoming books that bookstores will want  
to stock) comes out about six months before the book is published,  
and the information that goes in there takes time to develop.  It  
isn't a straight line from the author's idea to the book on the shelf.
