Standing room only crowd
I went to the tiny town of Greentown, Indiana today to give a program. I was
the opening speaker. I was so shocked when the crowd filled the room. It was
standing room only. In the past I have had anywhere from four people to
maybe twenty show up for my programs with the exception of two - one was a
Master Gardener conference and the other was at the Fort Wayne Botanical
Gardens.
My one hour talk ended up taking three hours. There was so much response
from the audience, so many questions, that even though the talk itself only
took forty-five minutes, I ended up spending the rest of the time answering
questions. This was new for me, normally I might get one or two questions.
I gave several nursery recommendations - Brent and Becky's Bulbs, Terra Nova
Nurseries (yes, I know Dan is wholesale but I told them to go to his website
and then where to go locally to get some of his plants), Munchkin Nursery,
Sunshine Farms and Gardens and Plant Delights. This list will likely tell
you the types of plants I was recommending. The Heuchera got rave reviews as
did the native orchids I showed.
The program was on "Four Seasons of Bloom in Indiana."
There was a lot of interest in my books and people asking if they could
order them on Amazon. The library also said they wanted to buy one as soon
as I got my author copies. I wish the printer had been done soon enough so I
would have had copies to sell today. I think I would have done quite well.
