Re: "Garden writers need to stop home gardeners from "using non organic icides....."

TC,

I am retired, but my advice is not to become a born again garden writer
who advocates either extreme - 100% kill with inorganic chemicals or the
use of only organic pest and disease controls.

Mixed habitats help avoid major disease and insect pressures compared to
monocultures where a problem quickly spreads from plant to plant because
of the same genotype. Providing excellent cultural conditions - soil,
water, draining, and sun conditions, that are optimum for growing should
provide plants that are not stressed and better able to withstand insect
and diseases pressures.

Home gardeners can frequently inspect their plants and do spot control
rather than spray the entire property. It helps to point out that some
plants are VERY high maintenance and perhaps more disease and pest
resistant plants are better choices.

It takes more research and effort to write a balanced piece, but the
effort should payoff.

Good luck.
