My husband has a laser range finder for golf (made by Bushnell) which is
accurate to the foot. I've played around with it here in the yard measuring
the distance between shrubs and trees and found it to be very accurate.
Perhaps you should be looking in this direction instead of at GPS systems. A
number of his golfing buddies have the GPS system made for golf course use
which are equally as accurate as his laser range finder. They all run in
the roughly $300-$500 range.
