Re: Pearl's Premium grass seed

Ailsa,
I tried Pearl's (both sun & shade mixtures) last fall just after our
terrible drought fall all summer long. Even though I planted it very late in
the fall, with very borderline temperatures for germination, it germinated,
overwintered, and is showing very strong growth this spring. It is not well
enough established to check on the root structure. I have planted it in both
wet shady heavy clay and bone dry full sun shale soils.
I also have been trying to get some retailers and wholesalers to carry the
product so that it is more accessible to the general public. I found that
Whole Foods stocked it for the spring only and not in the fall.

Subject: [GWL] Pearl's Premium grass seed

Has anyone on the list had direct experience with this 'new' type of grass
seed blend? It is described as being well adapted to cooler climates, needs
less watering (once established*), less mowing and less fertilizing. It
appears as though the blend is proprietary, so I couldn't find any
information indicating what the varieties may be -- there are separate
blends for sun and shade.

* important, since the instructions say that the seed needs at least two
weeks of conscientious daily watering before germination occurs, and then
continued regular watering until fully established.

Thanks in advance for any input,
