Re: traffic drops on websites

Lois - they don't but it's a moving target out there right now. Lots of
unsuspecting folks are getting whacked for things that were perfectly
acceptable a year ago. Google has been trying to deal with Article-Spam
(Panda updates) and now with Link Spam (Penguin updates). It's also things
like having sold a link, done reviews for money, or being on link exchanges
or any number of things that are now coming to light from Matt Cutts
(Google) and some other search-experts online. As far as I can tell right
now - links from systems such as blog rolls are not really great and
getting paid for a link is death on wheels while natural link exchanges
from one bit of content to a related bit of content are good. So if you
link to another blog article, that's good but if you spray out links
(particularly to low-value blogs) you're going to be penalized. I don't
have a full picture of this yet - (who does?) :-) and you've just hit the
sum total of what I can share at the moment.

And no - it ain't fair but then again who said it ever would be... ;-)
