Re: natural weed control

Hi!

I've been using horticultural vinegar (20% acetic acid) for years where it doesn't stain the stones like bluestone, but you have to remember it does have an effect on the soil and things like worms which I relocate before spraying when I see them. Plus it's non-selective so you need to protect desired vegetation.

I use the flamer a lot in the cracks of my bluestone front walk which works great as long as you remember to ALWAYS have the hose or a watering pail handy, especially this very dry season.

A product I like a lot for moss that grows on hardscape and rock surfaces between pavers which is very effective, non-staining and low toxic is Wet and Forget. Not exactly a weed killer, but it does take care of unwanted vegetation.

The other new kids on the block are the iron-based herbicides which I'm just starting to use this season so I can't really report back yet with credible results. More to come on that later this season I hope.

I never can tell if repeat applications are because of dormant weed seeds germinating or the same weed returning. None of these products translocate to the roots, so it's highly likely it's the same beast rearing its ugly head causing me to go back to the same place several weeks later and repeat the process.

Best,
