poor tasting gooseberries

I have a question for the home fruit growers: how do I change the taste of
my gooseberries? They taste like the kitty's litter box smells.
They share a space with raspberries, strawberries and blueberries, all of
which taste the way one would expect them to taste.
I mulch the garden with straw and amend with our own compost.
The Pixwell plant is healthy, the bounty prolific, and the berries are
almost perfect in appearance.
We just can't eat the harvest.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Dan
