Guess it's time to introduce myself. I've been more or less lurking for
several weeks, other than the thread about freebies.

My name is Brook Elliott. I'm a fulltime freelance writer, been at it
fulltime since 1980, part time before that. Only been writing about
gardening and self-sufficiency for a few years, though. I've written on
those subjects for publications like Mother Earth News, Le Bep's Garden,
Backwoods Home, OFA Gardener's Companion, Smoke & Fire News, Kitchen
Garden, etc. I wrote a monthly column about heirlooms (The Heritage
Garden) for Le Beps, until it folded. And starting next month I'll be
masthead listed on MEN.

Other major areas I write about are outdoor recreation, travel, and
living history. But I'll write about anything somebody is willing to cut
a check for. 

All in all I've written for more than 100 magazines and newspapers, have
written two books, and been anthologized in others. 

Before turning to freelancing I was a staff editor and writer for
magazines and newspapers, and a publications consultant.

A couple of years back I developed an email-based course in freelance
writing. It's more in the nature of a tuturial geared to the specific
needs of the student, then a set number of how-to lessons. Anyone
interested in this can contact me off-line. 

I reckon this is more about me than anybody really wanted to know, so
will sign off.
