KEN DRUSE RECEIVES TOP
GARDEN WRITERS AWARD OF THE YEAR

Washington, DC - November 1, 2001 -- When renowned garden writer and
photographer Ken Druse needed more plants for his new garden, he did
more than just run to the local nursery. He wrote a book about it.

Druse's "Making More Plants: The Science, Art and Joy of Propagation"
(Clarkson Potter, Publishers) is fast becoming a "must-have" for every
gardener.
For his effort, Druse will receive the coveted Garden Writers
Association of America "Award of the Year" for 2001, during GWAA's 53rd
Annual Symposium, in Orlando, FL, November 9-13, 2001.

Druse is deservedly proud of receiving this award, which is considered,
in gardening circles, to be akin to the "Best Picture" at the Academy
Awards.

"This is the highest honor GWAA bestows on a garden communicator," says
Judy Lowe, garden editor for The Christian Science Monitor and president
of the organization representing some 1,800 garden writers,
photographers, radio and television personalities, illustrators, graphic
designers and publishers.

"This organization is a powerful driving force in the gardening
industry, and the winner of this award is certainly a major player,"
said Lowe. "When Ken Druse speaks, gardeners listen."

The recipient of this award is selected from that year's Award of
Excellence winners, which represent the very best talent in individual
categories such as horticultural writing, photography and design or the
best product such as a garden book, newspaper or magazine.

Past award winners include Tovah Martin, for her book Tasha Tudor's
Garden, Garden Design magazine under the editor-ship of Douglas Brenner,
and Sam Abel, photographer for National Geographic, for the book the
Inward Garden.
Other books by Druse have won GWAA awards in previous years. The first
book, The Natural Garden published in 1989, is now in its ninth
printing. Druse is particularly honored to be recognized for Making
More Plants which took four years to complete.

"In selecting "Making More Plants," says Mr. Druse, "I feel GWAA is
recognizing my part in demystifying the practice of propagation, a most
essential part of gardening. The book has been widely acclaimed for
Druse's gorgeous presentation that seems to appeal to beginners and
experts, alike.

The book doesn't look like any other. "What seemed to be missing in the
marketplace was a book that showed readers how to become actively
involved in the health and vigor of their plants and gardens" says
Druse, "but in a new and beautiful way."
Critics seem to agree. The New York Times Book Review recognized
Druse's success in "Editors' Choice: The 10 best books of 2000." Verlyn
Klinkenborg wrote that Making More Plants "may be the most attractive
how-to book I've ever seen, and which belongs, nonetheless, right on the
potting bench." Anne Raver, also writing in the Times, called the book
"downright inspiring."

"Making More Plants" will be a certain hit with all gardeners on your
holiday gift list. They will thank you for a lifetime of pleasure.

And as Druse says, "Gardeners who receive this book will never have to
buy a gift for anyone again -- they'll be able to grow them."
