[GWL]: GWAA Conference & Awards

Hello GWAA friends,

So glad to see you all in Florida. We had a great time . . . and yes
there was one internet company still there -- TulipWorld.com. They were
one of our booths -- but the folks from Holland were too nervous to fly
over. If you haven't visited their website (www.tulipworld.com) you
should check it out. It's beautiful and full of tips. It won the Q&T
for Electronic Media.

I think the idea of an "Internet Caf=E9" is a great one. Getting an
internet hook up is very expensive and sharing the cost would make it
reasonable for everyone. Count us in.

The Florida committee did a great job as did Bob LaGasse and his staff.
Just to clarify a few things about the conference -- from my
understanding. The attendance was down "a little" from a normal
conference. Philadelphia was far from "normal" with more than 600
attendees. Toronto was just over 400. Most have been around the
350-375 number. I think there were 348 registered (that number just
popped in my brain). Considering the location, the economy and the
current "fear of flying," I think the attendance was great. Both
Southern Living and Better Homes & Gardens were at the show as well as
Country Living Gardener, Fine Gardening, House & Garden, Woman's Day,
Gardening How To and many more of the "big" magazines. =20

As many of you may know, we at IMPACT have been hired to promote the
GWAA awards. With that in mind, I've attached the release for the Award
of the Year winner -- Ken Druse. If you all can run this, we can all
work together to raise the level of prestige of GWAA. If you want
visuals, let me know. The more we let the gardening consumer know
about GWAA, the better for us all. All the winners will be on line so
you can spread the word about people in your areas.

Now I expect to see lots of applications for the brand new 2002 "Garden
Globe Awards." The "Call for Entries" should be on line by the weeks
end at www.gwaa.org. And you don't have to be a GWAA member to enter.
And enter as many categories as you think fits your entry. You can
enter the same thing in different categories, as long as it's
applicable. One way to get more recognition for internet sites is to
enter them for an award.

See you all in Seattle -- if not sooner.
