Re: [GWL]: Are there any banana experts

In a huge pot!! I put them in the basement after the night temperatures are
in the low 40's. They are in a dark area that stays about 40F. The plants
go dormant, leaves turn yellow (I cut then off), and they stay in this state
all winter. I water the soil in the pots every two weeks to keep the roots
damp and alive. This technique works with most tropicals such as monstera
deliciosa, brugsmansia and other large plants. I have an article called
"Sleeping with Bananas" about this in the current issue of "Gardeners
Companion," from the Old Farmer's Almanac. You can get a preview of it at
http://www.almanac.com Click on Gardener's Companion or gardening.

Doreen,

I'd like to know how you are growing bananas in Zone 4b!
