[GWL]: Resurrection of Irradiation
Hi Folks,
I apologize for resurrecting a topic last discussed two weeks ago.
I'm a new member and have enjoyed reading through the message
archive. One thread I was particularly interested in was the
use of irradiation to destroy anthrax spores, and subsequently
mail order seeds and/or plants.
In what appears to be the last definitive email on the topic,
Rose Marie Nichols McGee said regarding the postal service
that it seemed "reason will prevail, they don't plan to irradiate
seeds."
Yet in an email I received yesterday from Nona Koivula, the new
president of GWAA and director of All America Selections, she said,"
"Since you are in Canada, we have not determined the mail service we
will use to ship seed to Canada. Our post offices will irradiate
mail, this will kill seed."
Can anyone set me straight as to the present situation? Or are mail
order businesses just sitting tight for now hoping for the best?
thanks!
Carla Allen
