Re: [GWL]: Resurrection of Irradiation
I spoke with Nona at the GWAA meeting about her situation and as I recall
they are not metering their mail. There is not yet a secure procedure
developed for non metered mail. Also since irradiation is done at intake
and Canada is not irradiating I don't see why there would be a difference of
treatment for Canadian versus US but it is a good question to ask the post
office.
Seed companies are not "sitting tight waiting for the best". we have been
asking questions and bringing this issue to the attention of the postal
system, our congressional representatives and our affiliate organizations.
The United States Postal Service has been very responsive to our situation.
Their goal is to ensure the safety and delivery of mail. Seed shipments,
using metered postage from known mailers poses no threat. We pay a premium
for what is known as "backdoor service" this means the mail is either picked
up directly at our business or we physically deliver it to the dock with our
paperwork. This is a process in place for many years. Hope this information
is helpful.
