GWL: "The New York Times" refuses to italicize plant names, yet the
International Code of Nomenclature does, and most books and magazines do.
Common names are never capitalized but most garden writers continue to do so
and Gannett and the rest of the media empires are so cheap they usually
reproduce what the writer has produced; the majority of the publishing
industry capitalizes common names. Most publishers use "The Chicago Book of
Style." As to the GWA (GWAA) just reading their newsletter is embarrassing
so I wonder what kind of a "style book" they could produce? Peter Loewer
