Re: gardening with children

Hello.  If you are looking for children's books, I have written two on composting.  'Pee Wee and the Magical Compost Heap' and 'Pee Wee's Great Adventure: A guide to vermicomposting'.   They are an adventure series with composting facts.
I had an environmental club at my local public school and can give you ideas.  Do you want things to do with just gardening and the soil?  One idea is to make a sock worm puppet with button eyes.  Another craft I did was to make a treat for the birds by rolling a pine cone in peanut butter and then in seeds. Tie with a ribbon and hang.  Hope this helps. Larraine.

Subject: [GWL] gardening with children

Does anyone have any stupendous suggestions for short (one hour or less) projects to do with children, at-risk or otherwise? Or, can you recommend great books, websites or ???
I've just gotten a job working with inner-city schools here in Vancouver. Our first project is turning a gravel field into a 'natural' garden with native plants, berries, grapevines, trees, berms, etc.

Any input from garden writers would be much appreciated. Thank you, eh?
