RE: Aconitum and all of the rest...

Hello. I am in zone 5, Indiana, which I think has become zone 6 or so they
tell me.

My favorites are heathers - they bloom in December and January here and yes,
they are perennial - Akeiba, Daphne, Encore Azaleas - three years running
and no problems, Crepe Myrtle - again 3 years running and no problems, roses
- some are still blooming and hellebore and H. Arnolds Promise - both
bloomed during the winter months with snow on the ground.

I have been seeking Aconitum without any luck. I did finally locate some
seed and am starting them this way.

I am a real biggie on "what will bloom all winter long?" I am not going to
protect it, baby it or fuss with it in any way. That includes all the
tropical plants I grow.

Garden designers seem to focus on 'winter interest' instead of 'winter
blooms.' I think this is a real let down to the public because people miss
out on great plants due to lack of knowledge. When I went hunting for Daphne
I was repeatedly asked - by garden centers - what is that? - PLEASE -

Ok, enough of my two cents -

Sheri - who is determined to have blooms 12 months of the year outdoors in
Indiana!
