Come visit the gardens sometime,Sheri.
I have been working on what will reliably bloom here in Southern Indiana for 12 months of the year for some time now. May not have as much in January as I do in June, but I do get color.
I added a mini Daphne to my rock garden this late spring. Looking forward to the bloom and the fragrance this late winter/early spring. As I keep saying every chance I get... there is no shortage of plant material for gardening all 12 months of the year here in the mid-west. Just a lack of awareness.
I do believe that the 12 month garden is geared more toward us "plant nuts" than the average gardener. Sometimes I hear, "Yes, but why would you want a 12 month garden?' And that is a fair question. Not everyone wants to play outside in cold weather, or very hot weather... you see what I mean. Not everyone can be as addicted as you and I, so we need to redeemer they may not need the same 12 step meetings;-)

snip...Hello. I am in zone 5, Indiana, which I think has become zone 6 or so they tell me.
Garden designers seem to focus on 'winter interest' instead of 'wintersnip....
blooms.' I think this is a real let down to the public because people miss
out on great plants due to lack of knowledge. When I went hunting for Daphne
I was repeatedly asked - by garden centers - what is that? - PLEASE -
Sheri - who is determined to have blooms 12 months of the year outdoors in Indiana!
