POD or electronic or other options
Good morning List:
Glad to see people ran with the Canadian vegetables after my tremulous
question of last week. This week, I have a more serious question and
am looking for some feedback from the hive mind.
A friend/associate of mine has an idea for a book that we would
collaborate on. I would write the text, whether interviewing him or
editorializing on the photos, and he would provide the professional
side of the book, in images and tips. It would be a very eye-appealing
book with a lot of colour photographs, but also practical. I can't go
into detail at the moment because he's a fairly well known individual
in his area of expertise, and we're still thinking aloud about this. I
did say I'd explore possible options for publishing. We have several
traditional publishers here in our region who would possibly go for
it, as we're both well known in the region (I'd say he more than I,
myself, which is fine by me). He's also well known far beyond this
region, so it's possible a national publisher will seize on the idea.
We're still in the chatting over coffee and sketching down ideas phase.
In the event that one of the traditional publishers doesn't go for
this, I like to suggest a plan B and even C. There is of course the
whole option of going through lulu.com or other publish on demand
sites. I skitter away from the idea of so-called vanity presses, but
am also contemplating possibly of going the electronic route. Since
another project may have me going the latter route, the more research
I do now, the better.
I'm having a meeting with him later this week to do some further
brainstorming, so any comments or experience sharing you might have to
offer will be much appreciated.
cheers and thanks, jodi
