magazines to websites

 Good morning, all:

I rather hesitate to send this note because it might appear self-promotional, which is not what our little group is about.

BUT I have pondered how magazines have almost gone away, including the beloved ones I worked for as a staffer or a freelancer over the years. I am sure I am not the only one who misses reading--and writing for--gardening magazines. 

In their wake, though, some nice websites have sprouted. Of course, an important difference is that these are almost entirely written, illustrated, and designed by one person, and heaven knows how anyone makes any money doing this.

I particularly like Margaret Roach's http://awaytogarden.com/
She's smart, boundlessly curious, and knows how to convey information.

This week, I discovered another one, when they contacted me to interview me about my new book:

It would be a daunting task indeed to make one of these websites for myself. More, I am simply enjoying reading and surfing, much the same way I used to browse through a print magazine. 

I would be interested in your thoughts about these trends.
