Re: [GWL]: New Items

Better late than never...I've been out of town for a few days, but I'd like
to answer this one.

I, too, received a pack of plants from Terra Nova Nurseries -- a bunch of
Heucheras (all purple-leafed -- one has been dug up five times by a squirrel,
but I hope it will survive), two Tiarellas ('Neon Lights' and 'Ninja'), a
red-flowering Corydalis ('Blackberry Wine'), Campanula ('R.B. Loder'), 'King
of Hearts' Dicentra spectabilis, Pulmonaria 'Emerald Isles', Lobelia 'Cotton
Candy' and the ornamental grass, Luzula 'Ruby Stiletto.'

About myself, I was a newspaper reporter for 20 years, covering a variety of
topics from higher education to business. I left The Indianapolis Star in
1997 to found JEMStone Communications, a free-lance writing business.

About a third of my income comes from garden-related activities, including
teaching, a weekly column in The Indianapolis Star and my book, The Indiana
Gardener's Guide (co-authored w/Tom Tyler). I'm in discussion now with
another publisher about a book on annuals for the Midwest, so I may be asking
you writers what your favorites are. I'm also the associate producer/writer
of The Heartland Garden, a 30-minute locally produced program airing on the
public television station. We have 13 episodes under our belts (produced by
the Emmy award-winning Nineteenth Star (www.nineteenthstar.com), and have
begun planning for the another 13-week season to air in 2002. My Web site can
be found at www.net19.com/hoosiergardener.

The rest of my income comes from clients' work -- newsletters, annual
reports, sales literature, business plans, advertising and promotions. I also
do a lot of free-lance writing on real estate and development for regional
trade pubs -- Midwest Real Estate News, Midwest Construction, etc. And I do
some ghost writing for various corporations.

I am an Advanced Master Gardener and a member of GWAA, the Perennial Plant
Association and off and on, the Public Relations Society of America. I'm an
officer of the Indiana Native Plant and Wildflower Society, and on the board
of directors of the Friends of Garfield Park, which supports Indianapolis'
oldest city park.
