Re: [GWL]: deer proofing

In Oregon, the State Fish and Game Dept. will cost share on a deer fence for a garden or farm if the fence is built to their effective specifications. The fence must be 7'6" at the top wire; two heights of standard field fence one atop the next helped with two courses of barbed wire at the top. The posts must be at least one each 10 feet and generally people use ten-foot-long treated wooden poles at least 3" in diameter at the small end. This works on the small-sized black-tails of western Oregon. To the East where deer run a big larger, one might need a fence higher than 7' 6".
