Re: [GWL]: deer proofing


Well, in theory at least.  I've never seen them do that.  They can
and will jump 8' if running or spooked, but from a standing start, 5'
is about the limit of what they'll do just to get somewhere.

Like water, they take the path of least resistance.  If it takes more
energy to jump than crawl under, they'll crawl under - a sight that
is relatively humorous unless it's your garden they are getting into.

What a fence needs to be is strong enough so it is painful for them
to break through it and well attached to the ground or stiff enough
so they cannot bend it and crawl under.

You can get away with a 6' solid board fence because they will not
jump if they can't see a safe landing spot; they do value their legs
and won't do anything that could break them unless spooked. If
spooked, they will do amazingly dumb things.
