Hopefully it will jog your memory of vernacular insect names, as well as games you played or phrases and sayings you used as a kid - or perhaps still do!

As garden writers you must have come across plenty of vernacular names for various creepy-crawlies, superstitions related to the seasons etc. I'd love to hear about them. (News of non-garden insects is also welcome - as are tales of spiders, millipedes etc).

The more detailed the better (including scientific names if at all possible). In a future edition of IntriguingInsects, I'll put together the most interesting and unusual comments from around the world. If the response is large enough, then I'll prepare a special report.
