[GWL]: Writing for the web

Greetings from OZ,

Thought that, given many of the readers of this list write
for web sites, that this article which summarises the
findings of the latest Stanford Poynter Project research
might be useful.
The Stanford Poynter Project has been studying how
Web users read and absorb news for over four years.

The link to the story (at ClickZ) is

http://www.clickz.com/design/site_design/article.php/901381

The results suggest that text reigns supreme to Web news
readers and that web site visitors want content, not glitz - hardly
groundbreaking findings - but some of the detail was interesting -
headings and sub-headings are crucial and pics are less noticed than
captions and other text elements.

A number of recommendations for web writers is included.

Regards,

Michael Elliott
