[GWL]: Cotswold Zone

Debra,

UDSA zones aren't entirely applicable to England (and Ireland, where I live).

Our climate is ameliorated by the Gulf Stream, so we don't get
terribly cold winters. But we also don't get terrifically hot
summers. Parts of these islands get buckets of rain in winter (and
summer and spring and fall) that rots the roots of plants that should
grow here, if you're using the USDA zone system. For instance my
minimum winter temperature indicates that I live in the warmer end of
zone 9, which means that I should be able to grow citrus fruits and
sugar cane in my garden. In my dreams!

So you might want to flavour your zonal stuff with a bit about the
realities of the climate in the Cotswolds.

And now I should introduce myself, as I've been lurking for a couple
of weeks. I live just outside Dublin city, and have done for years.
But I spent parts of my childhood in the USA, in Massachusetts, and
in Minnesota (which is where my family are from). I write a weekly
gardening column in the Irish Times, and contribute to various other
publications.

Jane Powers (temp is now about 55 degrees Fahrenheit, and it's
raining. No frost yet this year.)
