[GWL]: Idiotic Questions

Hi,  I'm just back from a Pennsylvania speaking engagement.
I did want to respond to Carol Deppe's comments on idiotic questions.
While a teacher at the University of Oregon, my first address to the students was
"There are no stupid questions."  I agree with you, Carol.  We ALL are teachers.  Our job is to inform. 
We are also in an industry that has the most amazing dearth of humor.  What percentage of gardening books are humorous?  What endears gardeners to the catalogs of Tony Avent and  Kurt Hansen?
It's humor, along with a hearty helping of information.  One needs not exclude the other and self-deprecation has nothing to do with it.
 
Except for one instance, (where it was merited-ask lecturer Lynn Cohen), no customer was met with contempt.  There was always an attempt to translate the corruption and answer the question.
But what was Moliere' without his Mrs. Malaprop?  We internalize the humor and share with our colleagues in the lunchrooms and offices without contempt- customers, after all, are those who support us.
 
We are in a forum which, since Roman times, has been a place to present differing ideas.
