Re: [GWL]: Poor information from garden centers

Horticulture is a big field and I think it would be unreasonable to think
that the clerks at Wal-Mart's or Lowe's have the kind of information Sheri is
seeking, unless they are tropical plant specialists.

I'm a plant person myself and always get thrown when someone asks me about
houseplants (tropicals) because that's not what I know. Ask me about outdoor
plants in Zones 4, 5 and 6 and I can tackle those, but propagating Bird of
Paradise would be way out of my area.

I would never consider asking Lowe's or Home Depot or any of the other
general trade merchants for specialized information about ANY plant. I'd find
specialist in the field, such as tropical plant gurus at the San Diego Zoo or
Disneyland/World. Some of those may be garden writers and may be inclined to
help.
