Selling books at the Northwest Flower & Garden Show is such a successful endeavor that my editor wouldn't even consider any other release time for my first book (Big Ideas for Northwest Small Gardens, Sasquatch Books, Feb. 2003). I think some shows may have signing tables, but exhibitor space is so highly prized at the NWFGS that authors wouldn't think of trying to buy a booth. We speak at seminars and then book signings are arranged at bookstore booths (our local shops are fabulous — Flora & Fauna, University Bookstore and Third Place Books).
I am fortunate in that the newspaper for which I write (Northwest Gardens, every Thursday in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer) does pay to have a booth for promotional purposes. The free-lancers from the garden section get to meet and greet (and sell and sign) from there, too.
