Before I bluntly say "No, not a chance" I would want to know what
article-quality means to you. For an article in a local paper where you
want to show a basic garden/documentary photo you can get away with a focus
free camera if you are careful with all the other photo factors like film,
exposure, camera shake, etc. Though I don't know the resolution of your
particular digital camera, digital too, can work OK for newspaper work and
can be quite fine for web articles.
However, if you want magazine or book quality you need a good 35mm camera
with a few lenses including a macro for close-ups. Until you need high-end
quality you can find decent used cameras and lenses at many Internet mail
order places. Take the effort to use a tripod and caption your work
carefully so editors know your photos are keyed to specific story elements.
