Re: APHIS admitting seeds without phyto?
My experience with foreign seed has taught me to mail myself seed packets I
buy when I'm out of the country to avoid customs. I've never lose any seeds
that way, from Canada, England and Germany. I have had seeds taken away
from me by UK customs and in Canada when I've tried to carry them in my
luggage. That's when I started mailing myself stuff.
I have a friend in Wellington, NZ, and it's very difficult to get seeds in
and out of that country due to the strict regulations in New Zealand. What
we have taken to doing is slipping seed packets between magazine pages and
mailing each other garden magazines. We mark the package as reading
material--garden magazines--on the customs declaration sheet. It works.
