Re: Editing issues

Sorry, I was speaking of straight reporting, i.e., news story stuff -- not the fun stuff. News stories have a beginning, middle and end, but the end is wherever the space runs out; ergo, you spill the guts of the issue right up front. Feature articles have to fit space constraints too, but it's a lot better when the editor tells the writer, "lose ____ words" than when he/she excises them for you.
New, and sad, topic: Has everyone heard that Kathy Pufahl (not sure of the spelling) of Beds & Borders died last week? She was instrumental in popularizing mixed containers. I knew her only slightly, but by all accounts, we've lost a good one.
