Thank you, Miranda, Carolyn, Betty and Nancy for your thoughtful
responses to my query...they have clarified the issue for me and
explained what the purpose of an editor is (or should be).  When you
approach the field of writing from other, totally unrelated, worlds
it does not always make a lot of sense.
