Re: Gardening Resume - end result
Yes, please let us know about those industry certifications.
I thought it would be interesting to some of you if I let you know how the
resume turned out. In total, I received over 20 e-mails giving me advice,
suggestions and recommending various websites and programs to use to create
the resume.
Microsoft word has a resume format, I used that to come up with my first
rough draft. Then I visited www.resume.com and read some of the sample
resumes. They varied greatly depending on the career path desired and
nothing covered exactly what I felt was called for in the gardening world.
Using headers and bullets, I came up with a revised frame work, topic
headers were:
Objective
Experience
Lectures
Interests
Volunteer works
Education
Not many of the sample resumes had volunteer works listed but I liked that
idea since much of my experience comes from volunteering for different jobs.
My husband also encouraged me to list Education last as that was the weakest
point of my resume. By listing it last, it appeared on the second page. His
theory was that as I listed my strengths first, the reader would be "sold"
before they came to my weakness. Obviously this order would change for each
individual.
Another topic header I considered was Personal Strengths. The only reason I
decided against using it was that several people told me to keep the resume
short and simple. Nothing seems to agrivate people more than a long, "all
about me and then more about me" kind of resume.
Hope this helps somebody,
