Note on blogging

If you've been thinking of starting a blog, let me suggest you head over to 
http://wordpress.com/blog/2006/10/24/domain-mapping-registration/

And sign up for a wordpress blog with your own url - either that or sign up
for your own url and install wordpress (a free download) on it.

The technical reasons for having your own url (search engines find you
easier etc.) outweight the minimal costs of owning your own url or using the
wordpress system.

I now use wordpress but not on their servers as this link suggests you do. I
registered my url at godaddy.com (for $1.99) and bought a year's worth of
hosting (sign up manually over the telephone and ask if there's any
unpublished specials - I got a 20% discount for asking) for my new blog (url
in sig line) and now I'm having a great bit of fun populating it with new
articles, a newsletter picture contest and comments.

In any case, not that I'm an expert but every bit of advice I read on
blogging says serious bloggers don't use blogger.com (particularly after
this weekend when it has been down most of the time). LoL!  I'll be phasing
my blogger.com site out as the other sites come online with google et al.

The wordpress stuff is hot off the press (or almost hot) and certainly food
for thought in the blogging world.
