Was: chili terror; Now: Aging Gardeners
Rose Marie's advice to get a mammogram regularly is appreciated, especially
by the female members of this list. It gives you piece of mind, if nothing
else and most insurance companies cover the cost fully, as it's preventative
medicine.
Many of us garden writers are getting older and our bodies show the signs of
time and gardening. Demographic studies show that avid gardeners are older.
Brian Minter presented an excellent workshop in OKC on connecting with Gen X
& Y that bore out the premise that true gardeners are mostly over 42 years.
I sense there are a more than a few opportunities to sell articles to
gardening publications on the aging gardener, plus plenty of fodder for
podcasts, blogs and radio.
Adding information to any article on how to reduce body stress and strain is
timely, in my humble opinion. And, gardening certainly brings joy to those
who have health issues. Several recent studies show that healing is faster,
stress levels drop and fuller recoveries are made when patients are exposed
to plants and gardens.
