Re: unusual holiday plants?
C.L.
For something different, check out Iseli Nursery's website. They had a booth
at the GWA Symposium last year showing their beautiful miniature evergreens.
They subsequently sent me samples of 4 different plants that were about 6-10
inches tall and grow only 1-2 inches per year. I arranged them on a large
plant saucer, accented with a couple of pretty glass tree ornaments. It made
a lovely table centerpiece for the holidays. I photographed the arrangement
and included it in a column. My favorite of the group was the Chamaecyparis
obtusa 'Nana', called a true dwarf Hinoki cypress in Iseli's literature.
They're a bit pricey, but can be permanently planted into an outdoor trough
garden. Unfortunately, I kept them inside too long and only one survived the
winter. I'm sure the Iseli people would be happy to provide info about
proper care for your article.

C.L.,
What about jasmine? That fragrance is positively intoxicating!

I LOVE painted poinsettias...I have just already included them in this
article. The purple ones with a touch of metalic copper are especially
striking, and the blue ones FLY out of the garden center.
Thanks, everyone - keep the suggestions coming!
