rosemary indoors
One December when a grower was delivering rosemary plants to my garden center, I asked him why some people have such bad luck keeping rosemary in the winter. He mentioned that many people don't water it enough, and that keeping the plant in a cooler room helps, but he also said that some varieties need more light than others during the winter. He told me that if you want a rosemary that is easy to keep over the winter, buy a 'Salem' rosemary because it's less sensitive about hours of daylight when it's resting. This was twelve years ago - I bought one of the 'Salem' rosemary that he delivered that day and I still have it. Four or five years ago I bought another and still have it too. I clip pieces and tie them on holiday gives, and make herbal bunches and wreaths because how much rosemary can two people eat, after all?
